Prepare to be captivated by Zanzibar, an enchanting island paradise nestled off the coast of Tanzania. This isn’t just a place to volunteer; it’s a destination where mesmerising landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture seamlessly intertwine with meaningful personal growth and unforgettable experiences. As a volunteer, your daily “commute” might even involve a picturesque stroll or cycle along the beautiful island beaches. Your base will be in Jambiani, a charming and picturesque fishing village located on Zanzibar’s southeastern coast. Here, you’ll truly embrace the authentic island life and become part of a welcoming beach community. Beyond the impactful work, you’ll have unique opportunities for cultural immersion, including spending evenings with a local family to savor incredible homemade dishes – giving you a taste of the real Zanzibar after a fulfilling day of teaching.

On the weekends, Zanzibar transforms into your personal playground, offering a diverse array of island adventures. Picture yourself diving into turquoise waters to explore vibrant coral reefs through scuba diving or snorkeling, or feeling the thrill of kitesurfing. You can also try your hand at sea fishing or enjoy a leisurely trip on a traditional Dhow boat. This East African gem promises a unique blend of purpose and paradise.

Experience Zanzibar like never before at our modern, beachfront property designed for comfort and security. This shared accommodation offers gender-specific rooms, each accommodating up to four volunteers. Enjoy the convenience of bunk beds, private bathrooms, linens, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, and air conditioning for a restful stay. The property also boasts a pool, inviting social spaces, a dedicated Project Room, and office facilities. Zanzibar is a vibrant fusion of cultures and cuisines, renowned for its diverse culinary heritage influenced by centuries of trade and migration. Indulge in the freshest seafood or explore non-seafood dishes like Zanzibar pizza (a savory crepe-like treat), biryani, pilau, mishkaki (grilled meat skewers), and mandazi (Swahili doughnuts). Every weekday, a local chef will prepare delicious, freshly made meals to keep you energized and inspired.

Stay connected with free WiFi available at our accommodation. You can also purchase local SIM cards at the airport or shops for phone calls and data. Power supply can be intermittent, so bringing power banks is advised. Your arrival at Abeid Amani Karume (Zanzibar) International Airport (ZNZ) on a Monday will be stress-free, as we provides two convenient airport transfers (11 am and 5 pm) where our friendly team will greet you.

Getting to your Zanzibar volunteer adventure is designed to be as stress-free as possible. Prepare for a warm welcome to the island paradise! Upon your arrival at Abeid Amani Karume (Zanzibar) International Airport (ZNZ), always on a Monday,we ensure a seamless transition to your volunteer base. We provide two convenient airport transfers from ZNZ: one in the morning at 11 am and another in the evening at 5 pm. Keep an eye out for our friendly team who will be there to greet you. Before you depart, your pre-departure pack will include important contact numbers for our team in Zanzibar, ensuring you can reach them directly if needed. This comprehensive support helps make your volunteer arrival experience smooth and welcoming.

You’ll be supported by experienced local and international staff, including Amir, our Teaching and Community Development Coordinator. Amir, a former student of our adult English program, embodies the transformative power of education and community engagement in Jambiani

Your safety is paramount in all aspects of our operations. Our base is secured by 24/7 patrols, and staff undergo continuous safety training. We prioritize sun protection and hydration during outdoor activities and strictly follow child protection policies and respect for local customs when engaging with communities. Transportation, including our bicycle program, follows predetermined safe routes with provided safety gear. You will receive a thorough safety induction upon arrival, ensuring you are well-prepared for your volunteer experience. We also provide pre-departure training and on-site support to help navigate any language barriers or cultural differences
