Activities included

Empowering Skills Development & Photographic Storytelling

  • You won’t just take pictures; you’ll master the craft of wildlife conservation photography, delving into its fundamental principles, secrets, and techniques under the guidance of an on-site professional photographer. Through intensive workshops and hands-on assignments, you’ll learn to master camera settings, understand the nuanced elements that create a truly captivating shot – including frames, colors, movement, and powerful portraits. Develop specialized expertise in macro photography, exploring the unseen world to capture the intricate details of often-overlooked creatures like the industrious dung beetle or iridescent dragonfly. Additionally, you’ll hone your Lightroom skills for image editing, gaining full creative control to elevate your stunning photographs to professional standards. These skills enable you to become a powerful visual storyteller for conservation.

Direct Conservation Action & Community Awareness

  • Beyond photographic technique, you’ll actively engage in crucial physical conservation initiatives weekly alongside the Wildlife Research team. Your “hands-on” efforts will include vital tasks such as invasive plant species removal, wire removal, and litter pick-up, directly contributing to the health and biodiversity of the Greater Kruger Area. Crucially, you’ll also have the unique opportunity to photograph these conservation activities, generating compelling content that raises essential awareness for the project through social media and newsletters, mobilizing broader support for wildlife protection.

Building a Vital Photographic Database for Wildlife Research

    •  Your lens serves as a critical tool for scientific research and wildlife management. You will join the research team to meticulously photograph key wildlife species indigenous to the Greater Kruger Area, including leopards, lions, African wild dogs, elephants, and rhinos. By capturing their unique individual attributes – such as distinctive spot patterns, identifying scars, or ear notches – your images directly aid the constant development of animal identification kits. This invaluable photographic data contributes significantly to broader conservation data, which is then shared with reserve management to inform and guide larger-scale protection efforts for these threatened species
