We start off with a pre-departure meeting in the lobby of the Breakwater Hotel at 18h00. Cape Town offers stunning scenic routes, historical places and plenty of culture. You can enjoy comfortable lodgings for the night.

On Day 2 our guide will meet you in the lobby after breakfast and we will depart at about 08h00 and drive to Table Mountain where we will take the cable car to the top of the mountain (weather permitting). This will be at your own expense. You can look forward to 360° views of the city, the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island. We will then descend and take a tour of the peninsula via Hout Bay and Chapman’s Peak to the Table Mountain National Park. Here you can walk around Cape Point (the southwestern tip of Africa). We then take another scenic route passing through Simon’s Town which is a delightful quaint naval village named after Simon van der Stel, the Dutch governor of the Cape Colony. With time hopefully on our side we can visit Boulder’s Beach with its cute colony of penguins (own expense) before carrying on our route via Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg.

Dinner tonight can be enjoyed at one of the vibey Waterfront restaurants (own expense).

Departing from the Little Karoo we make our way north into the Green Kalahari area, named so due to the dense plant life along the Orange River as well as the plentiful evergreen Acacia Areolaba (Camelthorn trees) located in this region, through to Augrabies Falls National Park. Here, the majestic Orange River plunges 56 metres into the gorge below . This is the sixth biggest waterfall in the world. The local name for these Falls is Aukoerebis or ‘place of great noise’. The gorge at Augrabies is 240 metres deep and 18 kilometres in length. Due to the arid landscape there is not much game viewing here, but you will have the chance to spot a Rock Hyrax (Dassie) or two, which is the closest living relative to the African elephant. Our afternoon is spent admiring the gorgeous Falls from all angles.

Venture northward into the heart of the Kalahari, where the awe-inspiring Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park unfolds across 3.6 million hectares, one of Africa’s grandest wildlife sanctuaries. Its sparse vegetation creates a stage for extraordinary predator encounters, notably the iconic black-maned lion. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the desert’s magic with a captivating 2-hour pre-sunset walk, led by an expert field guide. Delve into the geology, flora, and fauna of the dunes, and perhaps meet our resident meerkat family. Discover the secrets of nocturnal wildlife through track interpretation, revealing the hidden lives that thrive in this seemingly barren landscape. The following day, embark on a thrilling, full-day game drive, maximizing your chances to witness the Kalahari’s incredible wildlife spectacle

We depart the Kalahari region and cross the border to Namibia which was originally a German colony. Namibia eventually gained its independence from South Africa in 1990. We will be travelling through quite an arid area where the rainfall is less than 10ml. The Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world and the largest in Africa. The river usually floods in the late Summer, but for the rest of the year it forms long, narrow pools. In the afternoon we go for a glorious sunset walk around the rim of the canyon.

Our tour will bring us north through various landscapes, to our camp that is situated on the rim of the Namib Desert. This is known amongst some geologists as being one of the oldest deserts in the world.

The next morning we leave early and drive 55km through the dune belt while the sun rises. The ever-changing hues make for spectacular photographs. We will then set off on a 5km walk to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Sossusvlei roughly means ‘dead end marsh’. The marsh holds rainwater that forms a lake and due to the fact that there is a high clay content, water is retained for long periods of time.

Deadvlei is another clay pan about 2km from Sossusvlei which used to be an oasis with several acacia trees. As a result it is dotted with blackened, dead acacia trees which stands out against the salty floor of the pan and the dark orange dunes. We will take a short hike through the Sesriem Canyon which is made up of sedimentary rock about a kilometre long and 30 metres deep. Animals frequent this area using it as a waterhole.

Frequently Asked Questions

South Africa truly is a special place. There are a total of 11 official languages, and you may even find variations of different languages throughout the country. English is commonly spoken in business, tourism and urban areas.

Namibia is known for its vast desert landscapes, towering red dunes, dramatic coastlines, and wildlife-rich national parks like Etosha. It's a haven for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers alike.

Yes, most trucks have charging points, and campsites usually offer power stations. Bringing a power bank is still a good idea for remote areas.

English is the official language. You'll also hear Afrikaans, German, and various local languages like Oshiwambo spoken throughout the country.

South Africa is called the Rainbow Nation because of its rich mix of cultures, languages, and ethnic groups. The term, made popular by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, celebrates the country's diversity and unity after apartheid—where people of all backgrounds live and thrive together.

Expect limited electricity and intermittent mobile data in rural national parks. Bring power banks, solar chargers, and extra SIMs/eSIMs. Campsites occasionally offer basic electricity, but overlanders rely on self-sufficient charging setups.

Citizens from many countries, including the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, and most EU nations, can enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism purposes. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 30 days beyond your intended departure date and has at least two blank pages for entry stamps.

Most nationalities require a visa (available on arrival or e-visa). Check Mozambique’s embassy site for updates.

The expense of exploring Botswana varies greatly on your chosen travel style. Opting for a tailored, private safari will entail a considerably larger investment than joining an overland tour, and each option has its own set of trade-offs. A private guided Botswana safari allows for travel at your own pace, whereas an overland adventure operates within a specific timeline. Nevertheless, the shared cost of an overland tour makes it more economical, earning you more bang for your buck, without sacrificing the opportunity to encounter some of the world’s best wildlife sightings.

Absolutely! Botswana is one of the most sought after destinations in Africa because of its kaleidoscope of wonders. From the life-drenched arteries of the Okavango Delta to the legendary wildlife spectacles within Moremi, Khwai and Chobe, travellers are truly spoiled in this beautiful country. It is also perfect for those looking to explore predator rich areas and birdlife.

Begin your packing list with essential documents: your valid passport, necessary visas, and comprehensive travel insurance. For your Botswana tour specifically, consider bringing lightweight clothing suitable for fluctuating temperatures, comfortable walking/hiking shoes, flip-flops, insect repellent, sunscreen, a headlamp, and a sleeping bag if camping. Other useful items include a reusable water bottle, personal medications, a quick-dry towel, and a retractable washing line. Given the soft-sided luggage requirement and the emphasis on packing light for overland vehicles, it's wise to consult your travel specialist for tour-specific recommendations, ensuring you bring only essential items.

Should you be arriving from or transitioning through a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, you are required to present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, issued at least 10 days before arrival. This is applicable to travellers ages one year and above.
