At dawn, we’ll traverse the boundary into Zimbabwe, arriving at our accommodation nestled within a secluded reserve in Hwange National Park’s northwestern reaches. During the subsequent two days, we’ll dedicate ample time to discovering this expansive wild region via wildlife viewing excursions. Hwange National Park stands as one of Africa’s premier wildlife sanctuaries, sheltering substantial gatherings of elephants, buffalo, and zebras, along with a notable abundance of giraffes. Furthermore, it harbors numerous predators, vulnerable species, and a diverse array of avian life.
Depending on the schedule, you may opt for an additional wildlife drive within the reserve during the afternoon. The entirety of the subsequent day will be devoted to exploring this remarkable locale on a comprehensive, full-day wildlife drive within Hwange National Park.

Our journey today commences with a flight to Deka Airstrip. Upon arrival, a vehicle will transport us to Msuna Island, situated on the Zambezi River, where a comfortable houseboat awaits us for a tranquil two-night escapade. Lake Kariba, a human-engineered inland expanse cradled by mountains and flanked by vast wildlife sanctuaries, presents a captivating blend of serene beauty and untamed wilderness, sculpted by the elements. Our nautical adventure will guide us from the Msuna River towards the Milibizi region, marking the inception of Lake Kariba. A scenic sunset cruise, offering opportunities for wildlife observation, will precede a delightful dinner served aboard.
Throughout the following day, both morning and afternoon, you’ll have the option to engage in relaxed fishing excursions, guided nature walks, or wildlife viewing activities, tailored to your individual interests. Upon leaving our vessel, we’ll return to Deka Airstrip for your aerial passage back to Hwange Airport. From there, a ground conveyance will deliver you to your accommodation. The subsequent day’s itinerary features an excursion to the remarkable Matobo Hills, a region of stunning visual appeal, imbued with cultural heritage, age-old enigmas, and striking stone formations. This protected natural area, recognized by UNESCO as a site of global significance, provides refuge to both white and black rhinoceros, as well as sable antelope. The avian population is abundant, showcasing the planet’s densest population of black eagles. This historical territory, once inhabited by the San people, boasts the most extensive collection of ancient rock paintings globally. Furthermore, it serves as the final resting place for Mzilikazi, the esteemed Ndebele monarch, and also for Cecil John Rhodes, who chose the “Hill of the Benevolent Spirit,” or “World’s View,” as he christened it, for his interment. The morning commences with a quest to follow rhinoceros trails, utilizing both vehicular and pedestrian methods. In the afternoon, we delve deeper into the park’s scenic vistas and wildlife, culminating in a visit to Rhodes’ burial site.

Many nationalities including South African passport holders do not require a visa for stays up to 90 days. However, because overlanding involves multi-region travel, and if you are planning to visit neighbouring countries such as Namibia or Zimbabwe, you may require a double-entry visa. Essentially, it is always best to check the latest visa requirements with the Botswana Embassy or consulate in your country.
Yes! It’s held late August/early September—book early, as it’s a major event.
Begin your packing list with essential documents: your valid passport, necessary visas, and comprehensive travel insurance. For your Botswana tour specifically, consider bringing lightweight clothing suitable for fluctuating temperatures, comfortable walking/hiking shoes, flip-flops, insect repellent, sunscreen, a headlamp, and a sleeping bag if camping. Other useful items include a reusable water bottle, personal medications, a quick-dry towel, and a retractable washing line. Given the soft-sided luggage requirement and the emphasis on packing light for overland vehicles, it's wise to consult your travel specialist for tour-specific recommendations, ensuring you bring only essential items.
The South African Rand (ZAR) is the local currency. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted within the cities and tourist areas. However, it is advisable to carry cash for the more rural areas. There are several shopping centres in secure areas featuring ATM’s, banks and exchange bureaus should you require assistance.
