Our budget camping safari tours suit travelers who want an authentic experience in Africa. While a camping trip is fun, it also requires you to actively participate which means you should be in good health and fairly fit.
This travel style allows you to meet like-minded adventure enthusiasts who are also seeking out a slower pace of life while exploring amazing highlights in Africa.
You will need to bring a sleeping bag on your camping tour to Africa while you will be staying in tents provided. We also offer accommodated tours if you prefer to have a bed instead.
Mozambique Camping Safari Tours
During a Budget Camping Tour you will stay in large two-man dome canvas tents which are spacious enough for two adults and your luggage. Alternatively opt to have your own tent by including the single supplement which is optional on selected routes.
Tents are easily put up and taken down and rest assured your Tour Leader will show you exactly how to do this. All tents are well-ventilated by means of a tent door and window with mosquito net protection. The tent also includes a fly-sheet for the rain. Sleeping mats are provided which are 5cm in height and made of high density foam covered in pvc. You only need to bring your own sleeping bag, pillow and towel.
The African campsites are basic but comfortable. While most have warm showers and flushing ablutions others may only have natural ablutions.
Although the crew do most of the work some assistance from the group is necessary. Getting involved is half the fun and certainly enhances the tour experience. This is an adventure and not a typical holiday.
You’ll be asked to help out with:
• Lending a hand with washing up duties
• Helping with food preparation from time to time
• Loading and offloading the truck
• Packing and unpacking your own bag
• As it will be your home for the duration of the tour your tour guide will ask you to keep the truck clean
• Assist with setting up camp
• Putting up and taking down your tent. The first time is a challenge, thereafter it’s a breeze!

African camping tours offer an authentic and immersive travel experience, allowing you to connect with nature, wildlife, and local cultures. You’ll be actively involved in setting up camp, helping with meal preparation, and enjoying a slower pace of life as you explore various destinations in Africa. Expect to stay in national parks, surrounded by nature, and engage with like-minded travellers.
A reasonable level of fitness is recommended as these are active tours, not typical holidays. You will be expected to participate in setting up and taking down camp, and assisting with various tasks. The better your health and fitness, the better you will likely enjoy the experience.
You’ll typically stay in spacious two-person dome tents, with well-ventilated doors and windows with mosquito nets, plus a fly-sheet for rain protection. High density foam sleeping mats (5cm) are provided. You’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag, pillow, and towel. Single tents are an option on some tours for an additional fee.
Campsites are generally basic but comfortable. Most offer warm showers and flushing toilets, but some may only have natural ablution facilities. These are not luxury camping experiences, rather they are about an authentic, outdoorsy connection with the landscape.
While the tour crew will handle most tasks, some participation is required. You’ll be asked to help with washing up, food prep, loading/unloading the truck, keeping the truck clean, setting up camp, and pitching your tent. These tasks are part of the adventure and meant to enhance the overall experience. Your tour leader will show you the best way to tackle each task.
These camping tours cover a wide variety of African landscapes and attractions. Some trips also offer activities like scenic flights, white water rafting, and river cruises.
Tours range from short trips of 1-7 days up to epic multi-month expeditions.
