Discover Beaverlac: One of the Great Camping Locations Near Cape Town

If you’re searching for great camping locations, you need to check out Beaverlac, a gem just two hours from Cape Town. We visited this past weekend and loved every moment.

My Dad first introduced me to Beaverlac when he took my brother there about 20 years ago. This serene camping area is perched high in the Cedarberg mountains near Piketberg. The campsite is spacious, divided into about four areas, ensuring plenty of room for everyone. Conveniently, there’s a shop on-site that sells essentials like ice, wood, and beverages, which is perfect considering the nearest store is a 30-minute drive away.

One of the great camping location’s biggest attractions is its mountain pools with waterfalls, ideal for swimming. The first pool is only a 3-minute walk from the campsite and is breathtakingly beautiful. It’s deep, has a 3-meter waterfall you can jump off, and offers a stunning natural setting.

For hiking enthusiasts, Beaverlac offers numerous trails that wind along the river. We hiked for about an hour up the mountain and discovered several inviting pools to swim in along the way. Beaverlac is the perfect spot if you are looking for a quiet weekend of swimming and hiking. Its tranquil environment and natural beauty make it one of the top great camping locations around.

Getting There:

From Cape Town, take the N7. At Piketberg, turn right onto the Porterville Rd. Continue to the end of the road (a T-junction). Turn left at the T-junction and drive for about 2 km before turning right at the Cardow turn-off. The road will bend to the left and follow the base of the mountain. Turn right at the Dasklip Pass. Drive over the pass and turn left at the sign for Beaverlac. (The road is gravel, adding to the adventure). P.S. If camping isn’t your thing, there are huts available for rent.
