These tours are the epitome of friendship, fun and ultimately – Adventure. With 30+ years of experience offering authentic African adventures, Nomad Tours are well-planned and executed.
Nomad Africa Adventure Tours traces back to 1997, when founder Alex Rutherford (the legend lives on) completed a nearly year-long trans-Africa expedition of his own and noticed a gap between strictly budget operators and the more upmarket end of the market. That trip produced Nomad’s founding principle — “do it better and do it for less” — and the company that grew from one truck, two employees, and a single monthly departure. Today Nomad runs roughly 650 tours a year, ranging from 4 to 56 days, with a fleet of around 40 vehicles and 150 staff.
Their 50 scheduled departures a month, ensure you get a seat on your adventure like no other. While traveling the length and breadth of Africa, Nomad Tours explore the popular and more remote regions of Southern and East Africa.

Grown from the road, not a boardroom. Nomad’s founding trip is still visible in how the company runs — routes shaped by a founder who did the journey himself before selling it to anyone else.
Giving back through the Nomad African Trust. Nomad’s non-profit trust channels support back into the communities its routes pass through, on top of the standard local-sourcing practices most operators in the region follow.
A newer fleet tier for those who want it. Alongside its standard overland trucks, Nomad’s “Luxury Adventure” trucks add air conditioning, USB ports, an onboard toilet, leather swivel seats, and an electronic safe — worth flagging for travellers weighing Nomad against a more basic budget operator.
