Destinations
Embark on an extraordinary Botswana mobile safari, specifically designed to witness the spectacular zebra migration across the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. Experience unparalleled comfort in the wilderness with serviced camping in en-suite Meru-style tents, where a dedicated team manages all camp duties, including preparing delicious open-fire meals. Your journey includes extensive game drives through wildlife-rich Deception Valley, home to “Kalahari Lions” and desert-adapted species. A highlight is the included 30 minute scenic helicopter flight from Gweta, offering an exclusive aerial perspective to search for and witness the huge numbers of zebra migrating. Join this eco-certified expedition, running as scheduled group departures for an intimate adventure of 2-12 guests, departing and returning to Maun
Your unforgettable Kalahari adventure begins at 9:00 AM, as your guide meets you at Maun Airport before you depart in an open game drive vehicle into the vast Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). Over the next 5-6 hours, the landscape will dramatically transform from dense bush to open pans and sweeping valleys as you journey to Deception Valley, your home for the next three nights. This ancient terrain of extinct riverbeds, including Passarge Valley and Sundays Pans, comes alive with the first rains, attracting abundant wildlife in search of fresh green grasses. This haunting and unforgettable place, so vividly captured in Cry of the Kalahari by Mark and Delia Owens, is sure to leave a lasting impression and a longing to return to its raw, soulful beauty.

Open vehicle game drive to Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Deception Valley
We pack up camp and journey east towards the immense grasslands of the Makgadikgadi Pans, embarking on a quest to find the spectacular zebra migration. Witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of up to 25,000 zebras that leave the Boteti River system and congregate here in search of nutritious grasses for calving. Despite their numbers, the herds can be elusive, and we will spend the next three nights immersed in this vast open landscape. To significantly increase our chances of finding this magnificent migration, your safari includes a breathtaking scenic helicopter flight, which offers a unique aerial perspective of this iconic Botswana phenomenon.

Children are welcome on overland tours in Africa, however some tours do have restrictions due to the activities and destinations that the tour offers. Some tour operators have more restrictive age limits, this is for those people who would prefer not to have children on their tour. Other tour operators are more flexible and will happily accept children on a case by case basis. Please ask us about the best options for a tour with your children or family, and we will make the best suggestions for you based on your preferences. Privately arranged charter tours’ age limits will be assessed based on the route and type of tour you choose. Please bear in mind that the Gorilla Trekking tours have a minimum age limit of 16 years.
Expect impromptu village stops, visits to traditional markets, and encounters with artisans (weavers, silk-scarf makers). In Anja, local community reserves protect lemurs while creating livelihoods—meaningful, grassroots conservation in action.
Stick to bottled water. Mint tea and fresh orange juice are safer (and delicious!) alternatives.
Begin your packing list with essential documents: your valid passport, necessary visas, and comprehensive travel insurance. For your Botswana tour specifically, consider bringing lightweight clothing suitable for fluctuating temperatures, comfortable walking/hiking shoes, flip-flops, insect repellent, sunscreen, a headlamp, and a sleeping bag if camping. Other useful items include a reusable water bottle, personal medications, a quick-dry towel, and a retractable washing line. Given the soft-sided luggage requirement and the emphasis on packing light for overland vehicles, it's wise to consult your travel specialist for tour-specific recommendations, ensuring you bring only essential items.
Yes, Namibia is one of the best overland destinations in Africa due to its scenic routes, good roads, safe environment, and stunning natural diversity.
