10 Day Ultimate Madagascar Wildlife & Culture Expedition

On arrival in Antananarivo, you’ll be met by an English-speaking guide and transferred to your hotel in the city centre. Perched across a series of hills, Madagascar’s vibrant capital blends rich history, scenic landscapes, and a lively atmosphere. After settling in, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps relaxing by the pool while taking in sweeping views of the city before dinner.

After breakfast, transfer to Ivato Airport for a flight to Fort Dauphin on Madagascar’s south-eastern coast. From here, continue to Ifotaka and your luxury tented camp overlooking the scenic Mandrare River. Settle into your surroundings and take in the views of this remote region, known for its striking landscapes, rich Antandroy culture, and unique wildlife. As evening falls, head into the Forest of Zenavo for a guided night walk. Explore the forest in search of nocturnal wildlife, with the chance to spot lemurs, chameleons, owls, and other fascinating species that call this remarkable corner of Madagascar home.

Enjoy breakfast by the Mandrare River before visiting the sacred gallery forest, crossing the river to search for ring-tailed lemurs and the playful Verreaux’s sifaka. Return to camp for lunch and a relaxing afternoon. Later, venture into the remarkable spiny forest with a local tracker and guide, discovering its unique wildlife and learning about the traditions of the Antandroy people. End the day with sundowners overlooking the Mandrare River.

Begin the day with an early walk through the spiny forest, keeping an eye out for endemic birdlife. After breakfast, visit a local market or village to learn about the traditions of the Antandroy people. Spend a relaxing afternoon at camp before enjoying sundowners among the baobab trees. In the evening, experience traditional Antandroy music and dance, an important part of the local culture.

After breakfast, set out on a day trip to picturesque Lac Anony, a saltwater lake framed by towering dunes near the Indian Ocean. Keep an eye out for flamingos and other birdlife as you explore the shoreline and enjoy a scenic picnic lunch. For those feeling adventurous, climb the dunes for sweeping views of the surrounding landscape or take a refreshing swim before returning to camp in the evening.

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your charter flight to Fort Dauphin, then back to Antananarivo. On arrival, your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel, where the afternoon is at leisure to relax by the rooftop pool or enjoy drinks at the bar. Later, visit Ambohimanga, a sacred royal hill and UNESCO World Heritage Site that once served as the ancestral home of the Merina monarchy, featuring historic gates, royal residences, and summer palaces. Return to your hotel in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.

Today you’ll board a scheduled charter flight to the coastal town of Soalala, followed by a scenic 2.5-hour road transfer to Tsingy de Namoroka National Park. En route, pause for a village walk through mango groves before continuing into this remote wilderness. On arrival at camp, settle in and unwind before heading out on a guided forest walk in the afternoon. Explore the surrounding landscapes in search of lemurs, chameleons, diverse birdlife, and possibly even rare sightings such as a fossa or aye-aye. As the day ends, relax with sundowners beneath ancient baobab trees, surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of this extraordinary national park.

Spend two days exploring the remote beauty of Tsingy de Namoroka National Park, a rarely visited wilderness known for its dramatic limestone landscapes and rich biodiversity. With only around 50 visitors a year, it offers a truly untouched experience and is home to over 100 bird species and several lemur species, including Von der Decken’s sifaka, red lemurs, sportive lemurs, and the elusive aye-aye. Explore the park’s cave systems beneath the Tsingy formations, where fossil remains of the extinct giant Archaeolemur and other ancient megafauna reveal Madagascar’s prehistoric past. Enjoy picnic lunches in the shade of the limestone formations while taking in the remarkable surroundings.
