I've just completed the 24 day Cape town to Jo'burg via Vic Falls camping tour with Drifters. It was a truly amazing experience, but it's also one that probably wouldn't have been possible for me without the amazing help of Celia Myburgh of African Overland Tours. Celia helped me at every turn. My plans were continually changing and my itinerary, as a result, was always changing. I was always changing my mind as well which must have made it quite frustrating for her, but she always responded with a fabulous, cheerful can-do response, and nothing was too much trouble for her, every query was answered promptly, and she always had options for me. If you need help travelling in Africa, I couldn't think of a better person to help with all the unknowns. I know if (when!) I go back I'll be contacting Celia for help.
The Drifters tour was fabulous. We saw so much, and it was a perfect introduction to Southern Africa. It was 24 days of unique experiences and every day I experienced or saw something that I hadn't before. It was great. This tour ticks so many boxes,- Namibia dunes, Swakopmund, Cape Cross seals, Spitzkoppe, Etosha, Okavango Delta, Vic Falls, Rhino Tracking (yes we got close to a few!) and more. This was complimented by our amazing guides, Bheki and Takalani. The knowledge these guys have is astounding. They seem to know so much about everything and everywhere we travelled and so really added to the enjoyment of the trip. They are both the most amazing cooks as well. Every night we had something different, and it was all delicious and fresh.
If you like camping and don't mind long days in the truck this is a terrific way to see heaps of Southern Africa and give you a taste of the many different experiences on offer here, and if you get Bheki or Takalani as guides, then you're in for a truly wonderful and fun time.

Dear Huntley,
Sorry for my late reply but I've been busy since my return.
The 12 days camping tour in Namibia was a big success.
We were only 3 in the group which means we were pampered during the whole trip by our 2 amazing guides (Erastus and Etienne).
The 5 of us came along very well despite the age difference and the different backgrounds.
I have a few highlights from this trip :
- Etosha NP : we saw lots of animals including lions and one leopard
- Sandwich Harbour (extra activity)
- The amazing dunes in Sossusvlei
- The Fish River canyon
I left a nice review on Tripadvisor.
I hope to be able to do another adventure trip in Africa soon.
I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025 !
All the best,
Marie-Helene

Hi Huntley,
our Trip was really „a once in a Life experience“, which we enjoyed very much. Everything was well organized, we loved the Truck and we were very happy with our two guides. Gibson is a very good driver, cook and guide, very responsible and kind, and Lucky was very friendly and helpful, all the time. We laughed a lot.
Our Highlights: the opportunity to watch wild animals was amazing: Elephants, Lions, Leopard, Zebras, Giraffs… Gibson always explained a lot and shared his wide knowledge, which was very interesting.
Cape Town, Fish River Canyon, The Namib Desert, Spitzkoppe, Sossusvlei, Etosha, Caprivi, Okavango, Vicfalls, Chobe, Hwange. Elephant Sands and Rhino-Trekking (♥️)… all was great!
Thanks for your support and and good advice.
Greetings
Annette

Hi Tammy
It's taken me a couple of weeks to catch up here in the UK and to get my head around the fact that my trip is over.
Thank you so much for all your support and advice while I was arranging my African adventure. It was a truly wonderful experience.
I enjoyed every aspect of the trip, from the Cape of Good Hope and onward to Johannesburg, but my heart remains in Namibia. I managed to stagger up 'Big Daddy' (it was fun coming down) but in the main I just loved the vast open emptiness of the Namib. Desert Fire Camp was such a great experience with its strange camping platforms, odd little toilet block and even odder cold plunge pool in the middle of nowhere, but my thoughts always go back to Spitzkoppe- my all time favourite. I could have stayed for a week just savouring the silence, the sunset and the stars. Not to say I didn't enjoy the multitude of animals we were privileged to see, especially the elephants at Elephant Sands- how incredible was that, having them just wandering through our camp site in the night . It was also interesting, and humbling, to visit the local village with Allen, near Maun.
Our guides, Chris and Thabang were wonderful. Their knowledge of the fauna and flora, geology, culture and politics was amazing. Two very bright guys! Five star cooks (I was always delighted by what they could rustle up in such a primitive kitchen), great and careful drivers and charming guides, as a group I don't think we could have asked for anything more. Very special young men.
As a trip, I will recommend Drifters to all my friends, though I'm not sure how many will actually love the idea of camping- with those hefty dome tents to put up and down every night- though I got quite fond of our particular one by the end!
One suggestion - not a criticism - is to have a night walk by a local guide after one or two of those very long drives. We were all stiff
from sitting in the beloved Green Truck for so many hours, and after putting up the tents and having dinner it might have been nice to have a walk and stretch our legs.
Otherwise- the perfect trip.
Thank you.

Absolute great trip. Accommodation and food excellent all the way. The guide, Michuk was fantastic, experienced, knowledgeable, friendly and funny, responsible, and very importantly a very safe driver, he deserves much credit/praise. Everything went according to plan and on time, and of course the itinerary was excellent covering many of the most interesting locations in those countries. And as to the tour planning and booking through Africa Overland it was a pleasure to deal with you, accurate, on-time, lots of help.

I enjoyed my tour through Africa very much. Intrepid is a good organisation. I saw more than I expected and after a while I enjoyed that thinking was not necessary, every day came as a surprise. I never good do this on my own this way. Good organised, good food, good information, good places to camp, etc. Everything was so impressive and went so fast that I needed to have a holiday to travel more after this trip. That is the reason and because in a way I was needed here I decided to go home. Have my holiday, spring is beautiful here, at home an be a real granny.
For sure I am going to travel more. Intrepid wil be a good possibility to do it.
Thanks for all your help, suggestions and enthusiasm.
Hope to meet you once or talk to you again.
Janine
Hi Huntley
Thanks for your message.
The trip was fantastic and I enjoyed every moment of it. I got to meet interesting and fun people. We experienced amazing days out in the bush and saw so many animals.
Even though I've travelled to Africa many times before, I have never seen this many animals on bush walks. Also the amount of animals we have seen in Chobe was breathtaking! Never have I seen so many elephants on one game drive.
Our tour crew was great and they went the extra mile to ensure a fantastic trip for us. BRAVO!
Literally every day was a highlight and I will never forget this trip.
Thank you again for the amazing support!
I'll get back to you for sure, when I get the chance to travel to Africa again.
Best regards,
Janine

The trip through Africa was just amazing and there were plenty if Moments I wuold never forget.
It was one of the most incredible Journeys of my life.
I found Serengeti and Goeongo just breathtaking.
Sourh Luangwa in Sambia was one of the one alife experiences, that would allwas be in my memories, spezially as we had a double spectacle: the night Safari, where we plenty of wildlife spoted and the beatiful and very impressive blood Mond during the Safari. Really cool!
Chobe was unbeliveble. So many Elefants, Buffalos u.s.w. in one Spot was just magical.
The Okabango and sleeping in the wildness was also great. We made a safari in Bulawayo, where we even got the Rhinos very close by foot. That was scaring and at the same time incredible.
One of the unforgetable moments was in Spitzkopf. We slept on the rock Hill wirhout a tent and gaze the whole night at the stars in the Sky. I was so happy and so excited, thatI couldn't close my eyes at all.
It was an one-in-life experience, which I am glad I did.
Thanks for organizing this for me and for your patience and Help!

Hi Minette
I am back to work today which was hard to be honest . We had the most amazing time and Sunway’s Safaris, and our 2 guides (Ali and Edwin) took amazing care of us. We had a really great group of people on our tour and felt safe at all times. A lot of the accommodations had these little small surprises like the hide and little walks, outside showers and beautiful locations. At Wengi Elephants came to the watering hole and were eating trees right behind my tent. What will stay with me for always is the camping at Okavango Delta and the walking safaris.
Thank you so much for all your support and help. We had the time of our life and so grateful to you for everything.
Kind regards
Leanne Erickson

"Thanks for reaching out.
I had an amazing experience and will recommend it to everyone I know.
We were so lucky having an amazing group spirit and our two guides were just the best.
We had so much fun, had the most beautiful animal encounters, met such welcoming and wonderful locals on our way!
The most amazing moment was our rhino walk in Matopos in Zimbabwe. I will never forget that moment when we walked in 3 meters distance with Rhino Mama Lisa and her calf KoiKoi. Such precious animals and truly magical. So I’ll always hold that in my heart and will always remember our guide Blessing and all the Rangers, who work and live there to protect the Rhinos from Poachers. And also every guide that we had, local or from our tour company, always held safe and respectful distance to every animal to not invade their privacy. Although they of course tried to get as close as possible to give us the best experience.
And I highly appreciate that, because it’s still wildlife and it’s still their natural habitat and not ours.
So all in all it was truly magical and I’m more than happy to maybe try another route next time.
Lots of love!
Jennifer

Hi Chemone,
We had a wonderful trip. It had been a dream of ours for a long time and Sunway was able to pull it off within our budget. My best moment was the 3.5 hour game viewing walk after arriving at camp in the Okavango Delta. The guide was incredible and all of the local's respect for the animals was amazing. The guide explained why we did not need a rifle for protection, if we followed the rules. I was so impressed.
To be honest, the "big 5" was not important to us. We just wanted to soak in the whole experience, which we did.
Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks for the welcome and also a big thank you for proposing to join this tour.
In fact we had incredible lots of amazing and particular moments and fell in love with Southafrica. I do not know what highlight to emphasize …as the tour was absolutely gorgeous - even far beyond my expectations. Great guides ( Moses and Tawanda), wonderful people in the group, breath taking landscapes, perfect locations (each of them with unique character) and of course a singular flora and fauna. With a lot of good luck on our game drives we saw not only the big 5 but also wild dogs and an Aardfark. Enjoying good weather and wonderful accomodations and food we have had a fantastic time. An accomodation highlight was surely the Mawuka lodge with their friendly hosts, first class cooking, romantic ambiente and a cosy fireplace.
I can only fully recommend this tour as it was simply perfect. The guides have been very committed taking care of the group and each single participant - arranging everything to meet the individual needs of each participant (medical assistance, vegetarian food, individual hikes, separate beds and much more.). We learned so much interesting about animals and plants, African culture and history, gained new experiences, exchanged thoughts and enjoyed the time as a group.
In the end we have left with a lot of beautiful memories, inspiring ideas and impressions, photos, videos and the strong feeling that we will return to this fascinating rainbow nation whenever possible.
Thanks,
Anja
