The Knysna Oyster Festival

The Knysna Oyster Festival has been running for over 30 years and is the largest Oyster festival in South Africa and extremely popular with the locals, visitors from around the area, and the many tourists who flock to the Garden Route.

Packed with a variety of sports activities such as The Big 5 Sports Challenge which includes the Momentum Weekend Argus Knysna Cycle Tour MTB Race, the Momentum Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon 21km Run, The Featherbed Trail Run, Knysna Dragon’s Lagoon Mile Swim and the Momentum Health OatWell DualX. This is a great place for fitness freaks who also love nature.

As far as entertainment for those who are not so sporty the Knysna Oyster Festival offers oyster shucking and eating competitions, thrown in with a healthy dose of comedy.  Or you can choose to wander around the restaurants at night where you can see the locals competing for the title of ‘The Best Dresssed Oyster’ and the ‘Best Dressed Stand’. Great for foodies and wine lovers as you also get to sample the wines that pair well with the oyster meals. Add to that fish braais, night markets and great entertainment for the kiddies and you have the perfect package for a great week away!
