Activities included

Tracking Big Cat and Elephants:
  • As a dedicated wildlife conservation volunteer, the crucial data you gather will directly fuel vital initiatives like the Mara Predator Conservation Program, a flagship effort by the Kenya Wildlife Trust. Your active involvement in big cat and elephant monitoring in the Pardamat Conservancy is especially significant, as it marks the first-ever field monitoring initiative in this vital area, addressing critical gaps in animal population and distribution data. Beyond Pardamat, you’ll dedicate two days a week to big cat monitoring in the peripheral zones of the renowned Naboisho Conservancy, contributing to long-term research within this well-established wildlife habitat. Your work is essential to securing the future of Kenya’s iconic predators and elephants.
Wildlife Census:
  • As a wildlife conservation volunteer, you’ll conduct regular wildlife censuses along transects and within sample areas, contributing crucial data to ongoing conservation efforts. In Pardamat Conservancy, these weekly counts will encompass both wildlife and livestock, offering vital insights into population trends and movement patterns. This unique data directly empowers conservation strategies in Kenya, helping us understand the influence of livestock on wildlife in this dual-use conservation area and supporting the sustainable future of the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Your dedicated work in both Pardamat and Naboisho Conservancies directly shapes the understanding needed for effective wildlife protection
Conservancy Operations:
  • While no ecosystem is without its challenges, the Masai Mara faces specific threats from soil erosion and invasive plant species, which can detrimentally alter its delicate balance. Our dedicated wildlife conservation volunteers actively participate in hands-on initiatives designed to bolster the health of this vital ecosystem, ensuring it continues to thrive and support its magnificent inhabitants. Collaborating directly with the conservation area’s management team, these crucial efforts include: eliminating invasive flora, implementing erosion control measures, monitoring grass growth, maintaining game drive tracks, undertaking de-fencing exercises, collecting litter, repairing essential roads, and assisting Pardamat conservation rangers in constructing predator-proof bomas to safeguard Maasai livestock at night. All activities are strategically deployed based on the priority needs identified by the conservancy management, guaranteeing your work makes a direct and meaningful impact.
