Itinerary
Day 1: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park, South Africa
We arrange for guests to be picked up from various lodges and hotels within a 5 km radius of the OR Tambo International Airport between 6:30 am and 6:45 am, and then driven to the shuttle and bus terminals at the airport between 6:45 am and 7:00 am to depart at 7:15 am.
A safari guide will pick up clients at no additional charge at Skukuza Kruger National Park or Kruger Mpumalanga International Airports.
It is important that you confirm your pickup details the day before the tour. Please note these are shared departures. Our journey will take us directly to Hazyview Lodge, where we will arrive between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
After enjoying a light lunch, guests can relax, unpack and enjoy a swim or walk around the beautiful lodge. We depart the lodge around 15.45 p.m. for a night safari in the Kruger National Park. During the winter months, the sun sets early, which allows clients to enjoy a longer Night Safari, while clients during the summer will enjoy beautiful sunsets while on safari, before returning to the lodge around 20.00 pm for a lovely dinner, and a good night’s sleep before a full day safari in the Kruger National Park.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Days 2: Kruger National Park, South Africa
During a safari, all activities must begin before sunrise, and Mpumalanga is the first province to experience sunrise in South Africa. As we enter the park gates after a short drive to the park, your guide will be able to tell you where to look for wildlife, including the Big 5 and plains game. This is the prime time of day to view predators.
In addition to arranging breakfast packs, the Lodge will arrange a bathroom break and a coffee break for your guide after approximately three hours. Our safari continues in Kruger National Park, where we visit rivers, watering holes, plains and bushveld areas and enjoy a wide variety of wildlife.
We will then stop at a rest camp for lunch, which will be for your own account, allowing you time to shop for souvenirs or enjoy a cold beverage. Following the safari, the guide will proceed to the lodge. We arrive around 15.30 – 16.00 pm, where we will have time to relax, swim, and have a delicious dinner.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Days 3: Full day Panorama safari – Kruger National Park, South Africa
You will have the opportunity to visit Gods Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon (world’s third largest canyon), Lisbon waterfall, the 3 rondavels, and the town of Graskop.
You will be greeted by your guide at 8 am in a closed air-conditioned vehicle after a delicious hot breakfast is served at the lodge at 7.30 a.m. On the Panorama route, we will ascend almost 1000 meters in elevation after a 45-minute drive from Hazyview. It is important to bring a jacket and comfortable walking shoes since the temperatures vary greatly from Hazyview.
On a clear day, one can see as far as Kruger from God’s Window, which is located on the escarpment with a drop of nearly one thousand meters below. You will need your comfortable walking shoes since there are trails and paths leading to each of the various lookout points. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to reach the top, but the walk through a rainforest environment is well worth the effort.
Water erosion over hundreds of years has created Bourkes Luck Potholes, a stunning natural formation. Located in the red sandstone of the Treur River and Blyde river confluence are Bourke’s Luck potholes with round carvings and holes of different sizes. As part of your tour, your guides will provide you with a brief overview of the region’s history. A small footbridge allows visitors to cross over the chasms and observe the water flowing through the cracks and holes. Additionally, there are several small, but beautiful waterfalls in the area, and we spent about one hour walking the one kilometer route.
The Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. Approximately 40 kilometers in length, the canyon reaches a depth of 1,200 meters. There is an abundance of plant life in the canyon, and rivers and dams make up the canyon’s floor. There is an opportunity to see an additional beauty of the Panorama Tour at a certain lookout point, the 3 Rondavels – the Rondavels get their name from their resemblance to traditional African huts, these three outcrops are prominent in the landscape.
In addition, the Guides will visit Lisbon Falls, a beautiful waterfall that flows continuously throughout the year. There will be time for lunch and some curio shopping in the Highveld town of Graskop, known for its wonderful pancakes and our lunch venue for the day. There will also be time to stroll through the town and explore some of the great small shops.
After a fantastic day out, return to the lodge at about 4 pm for a drink, a swim, and dinner before an early start for our last morning safari in Kruger.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 4: Kruger National Park – Johannesburg, South Africa
The guides at the Kruger National Park will help you find as many animals as possible, including lions and leopards, who are most active at dawn and early in the morning. The park has 148 mammal species and over 500 bird species.
The Kruger National Park has an extensive network of roads, so guides will safari in different areas during various seasons, giving clients the opportunity to see more wildlife. In the morning, we will stop for a short breakfast and coffee stop, before continuing with the safari and returning to the lodge by 11 am where you will say goodbye to your guide and freshen up before your return trip to Johannesburg.
The shuttle will pick up the clients at approximately 11.30 am, and we will return them to Johannesburg OR Tambo shuttle terminal and lodges within a 5 km radius by 17.00 – 18.00 pm.
Meals: Breakfast
