Being on Lake Kariba and hearing the water lap up against the sides of the houseboat is a very relaxing and enjoyable way of going on an African safari. There is plenty of wildlife that can be viewed and you have a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery. Sunrises and sunsets can be enjoyed at your leisure without having to go in search of it, while sipping on a hot coffee or enjoying a cool sundowner in the orange light of the late evening. All your meals are prepared for you (unless you choose a self-catering boat) and this gives you more time to sit back and relax, or take photographs of the world around you. The weather is often quite warm, so being on the boat in the evenings will not be unpleasant.
You can sit quietly and fish and watch out for game at the same time! Look out for elephant, hippo, waterbuck, antelope, herds of buffalo and plenty of bird life, while you patiently wait for your catch of the day. There is a wide variety of fish including Tiger fish, Bream, Barbel, Jack, Catfish and the enormous Vundu fish that can weigh in between 25-50kgs. Alternatively, if you are into more of a ‘rush’ why not go on a speed boat trip and let the wind blow the cobwebs away!
