Itinerary

Day 1: Maun – Makgadikgadi Region, Botswana

Once you arrive at the Maun airport, you will be greeted by your guide who will take you to the Boteti River Camp, which is located adjacent to the Makgadikgadi National Park. After reaching your accommodation, you can relax, gaze at the ephemeral Boteti River or cool off with a swim in the pool. A briefing will be given by your safari guide in the afternoon regarding the upcoming safari adventure. The Boteti River Camp is where you will spend the night.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Distance: ± 150 km
Driving time: ± 2 hours

Day 2 – 4: Makgadikgadi Region – Central Kalahari Game, Botswana

Khumaga is a small rural village located within close proximity to your accommodation. In the morning, you will have the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll through the village with the assistance of your guide. A visit to the local school or clinic as well as the “kgotla”, the tribal meeting place, may be on the agenda. Community issues can be discussed in the kgotla on a general basis. During the morning, you will have the opportunity to meet some of the village locals and obtain a better understanding of how they live. Your next stop is the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). As you travel through the Kalahari, you may encounter some of the arid savannah landscapes that are characteristic of that region. You can enjoy a picnic lunch under a shady tree along the way. Upon arrival at your mobile safari camp in the afternoon, you will begin your safari. There will be several game drives in the following days, including drives through Deception Valley, Passarge Valley, Sundays Pans, and Letiahau. This tour takes you through the CKGR, which is one of the largest and most remote game reserves in the world. Approximately the size of the Netherlands, it offers a wilderness area that is undeveloped and untrampled. There is the possibility of seeing wildebeest, springboks, oryxes, giraffes, cheetahs, leopards and the infamous Kalahari black-maned lion on your game drives. Upon returning to your camp in the evening, you are greeted with a delicious meal. A starlit night sky accompanied by a campfire will provide an inspiring conclusion to the evening.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance: ± 160 km
Driving time: ± 5 hours

Day 5 – 6: Central Kalahari Game Reserve – Makgadikgadi National Park, Botswana

As you travel to Makgadikgadi National Park today, you will continue your journey off the beaten path. We will be searching for the roaming zebra migration for the next two days. The Makgadikgadi and Nxai plains play host to tens of thousands of zebras every year seeking fresh vegetation. It is also during this time that they give birth to their calves. A host of predators usually accompany these herds. In addition to lions, leopards, cheetahs and brown hyenas, spotted hyenas can also be seen. Due to their constant movement, the herds can sometimes be difficult to locate despite their enormous size. Accordingly, your camp location should be determined by the likelihood of encountering this “secret” migration. A mobile camping safari is a unique experience for this reason. While traveling, you will be able to spend the night in remote and far-flung areas while still being comfortable. There is a warm water shower in each of your walk-in safari tents, along with comfortable beds. While you relax and enjoy your magnificent surroundings, a safari chef prepares delicious meals for you.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance and driving time: dependent on choice of route

Day 7: Makgadikgadi National Park – Gweta, Botswana

Your day starts with an early morning game drive en route to the village of Gweta before you arrive at your hotel, Planet Baobab. It is difficult for most guests to resist taking a quick dip in the lodge’s inviting swimming pool once they have arrived. Afterwards, you will go on an outing with a picnic lunch to the Makgadikgadi Pans in order to see a special colony of meerkats. Over time, these meerkats have become accustomed to human contact. The social structures of these little creatures are not only fascinating, but also adorable. You can spend hours watching them without getting bored. After returning to your lodge, you will enjoy a hearty dinner before spending the night in a modernized but traditionally styled thatched Baklanga or Baobab hut at Planet Baobab.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance and driving time: Sependent on choice of route

Day 8 – 10: Gweta – Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana

Before you travel to Maun, you will enjoy an early breakfast. As you arrive around midday, you have the opportunity to visit a charming local restaurant for lunch before continuing your trip. You are traveling to the Khwai Area of Moremi Game Reserve. Located in the middle of this wildlife rich area, your mobile safari camp is available once more for your enjoyment. Game drives will be conducted in the Moremi Game Reserve over the following days. Located in the Okavango Delta, the Moremi covers a large area and is well known for its abundant wildlife. Having a large variety of wildlife also means that a high density of predators can be found in this region. A safari can provide you with the opportunity to see lions, leopards, hyenas, and even the extremely rare African wild dog. The park is also home to elephants, hippopotami, wildebeest, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and a variety of antelope species. There is no doubt that the remarkable birdlife of the Moremi steals the show for some, and what better way to admire them than from the water. A “mokoro” or a motorboat (depending on the level of the water) will take you through the maze of waterways of the Khwai on your trip. At night, you can relax in your mobile safari tent surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance: ± 330 km
Driving time: ± 6 hours

Day 11: Moremi Game Reserve – Maun, Botswana

It is likely that by now you have become accustomed to rising with the sun. The early morning hours are ideal for game drives, and this morning you will go on another early game drive. Upon completion of breakfast, you will say farewell to your camp crew and with the assistance of your guide, you will return to Maun. You can choose to fly back to Maun in a light aircraft (optional) if you would like to end your safari with one more highlight. A cloudless day offers exceptional views of the Okavango Delta, including Chief’s Island. Upon returning to Maun, you will have a greater appreciation for Botswana’s wildlife and natural beauty.

Meals: Breakfast
Distance: ± 120 km
Driving time: ± 3 hours
