9 Day Kenyan Culture and Wildlife Adventure (Camping)

Day 1: Nairobi, Kenya

Arrive in Nairobi at your own pace and settle into your accommodation. There are no planned activities until the evening welcome meeting, so you’re free to explore the city, relax after your travels, or simply unwind. This free time allows you to adjust to the Kenyan time zone before your exciting adventure begins! In the evening, join your fellow travelers and guide for a warm welcome and informative meeting. Get to know your group, get prepped for your Kenyan odyssey, and get ready for an unforgettable experience!

Day 2: Nairobi – Samburu National Park, Kenya

After a relaxed arrival, gear up for an exciting journey north. Drive through scenic farmlands cultivated by the Kikuyu people, with majestic Mount Kenya (Africa’s second-highest peak!) dominating the horizon.

En route to Samburu National Reserve, immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to a Samburu village. Often mistaken for Maasai, the proud Samburu people have a distinct warrior tradition. Witness captivating dances and gain insights into their fascinating way of life – this village visit directly benefits the Samburu community.

Continue your adventure to Samburu National Reserve, a haven for unique wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in Kenya. Embark on an afternoon safari drive, searching for the park’s diverse inhabitants, including large elephant herds and big cats roaming free in this untamed wilderness.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve, Kenya

This morning we wake up early to enjoy the full day game drive we have planned for today within Samburu National Park. Here we will have the opportunity of seeing more rare wildlife only seen north of the equator, such as the Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra, the majestic reticulated giraffe along with the long-necked gerenuk a graceful antelope known to stand tall on its back legs to browse on the fauna in the region.

Day 4: Samburu National Reserve – Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya

Today we head in the direction of the bustling town of Nakuru, meaning “dusty place” in the Maasai language, is a lively town with a range of colorful local markets. We camp outside the town, on the edge of Lake Nakuru National Park, and if time and weather permits, we may be able to visit a local tea farm and see how the tea is grown, picked, and produced.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya

Your adventure continues with a thrilling safari within Lake Nakuru National Park! Get ready to encounter a variety of incredible animals – from the majestic elephant and powerful buffalo to the graceful impala. Keep your eyes peeled for the park’s most elusive resident, the legendary leopard! This diverse park promises unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara National Park, Kenya

Upon arrival, settle into your comfortable tented camp, your base for exploring the wonders of the Mara. Waste no time – embark on an afternoon safari drive, venturing deep into the reserve in search of the legendary “Big Five” – lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhino. Keep your camera ready – unforgettable wildlife encounters await!

With a full day at your disposal, you’ll have ample opportunity to cover a significant amount of ground. If time permits, you might even venture to the Mara River region, a hotspot for exciting animal interactions.

Feeling adventurous? Upgrade your experience with an optional hot air balloon safari! Soar above the breathtaking landscape, capturing panoramic views of the sprawling savannah and the Mara River teeming with life. After your safari adventure, enjoy a delicious lunch at the Amani Ya Juu, a social enterprise that empowers women in Kenya’s Masai Mara region.

As you depart the Masai Mara, head back to Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital city. Upon arrival, you’ll have some free time to explore the bustling streets, discover hidden gems, or indulge in some souvenir shopping at local handicraft markets. Capture the essence of Nairobi before your adventure concludes!
